JoAnne Bierly is a life member of Auxiliary 8185 in Port
Deposit, Maryland. Although her mom was
a charter member of the auxiliary at Post 8185 since February 1955, JoAnne was not
eligible to join, and she longed to serve the veterans alongside her mom. She finally
joined in 2007 under the eligibility of her older son, SFC Jason E. Bierly, now
retired, who served 3 tours to Afghanistan (2003, 2006, 2009) and 1 tour (2017)
to Iraq as an 18Delta Special Forces Medic with the Maryland Army National
Guard. JoAnne was elected as District 10’s President in 2017 and was most
recently elected for a 6th term in 2022. At the POST level, she
currently serves as Auxiliary Secretary-Treasurer, Assistant Historian, and Program
Chairman for Membership. She has served her
auxiliary as Historian, Legislative Chairman, and Scholarship Chairman. At the
DISTRICT level, JoAnne has served as Historian, Patriotic Instructor, and Membership
Chairman. At the DEPARTMENT level, she was appointed Assistant Conductress by
PDP Betty Stahm (2016-2017), Historian by PDP Joyce Thomas (2018-2019), and
Membership Program Chairman by PDP Cheri Brown (2021-2022). She was named
"District President of the Year” (2019-2020) by PDP Cynthia Davis and she was a
member of the original YACPAC Committee. JoAnne is also a life member of the VFW
National Home for Children. She married
her veteran husband Rick - who currently serves as Auxiliary Guard for Post
8185 – in 1972; they have two sons (Jason 47 and Craig 45) and three
grandchildren (Gabriel 17, Ella 16, Michael 12). She is a retired Medical
Secretary/Medical Assistant/Medical Office Administrator. In her spare time,
JoAnne enjoys scrapbooking, sci-fi, cats, crabs, playing "Words with Friends”
on her phone, camping in Crisfield, and volunteering for our veterans, her
church, and the community.
